From the Heart

Time International extended full support for the first charity gala held by Happy Hearts Fund last August 2013, in celebration of its efforts to provide education and safe schools for children affected by natural disasters in Indonesia, and to launch its new Indonesia-based affiliate, Happy Hearts Fund Indonesia. Held at the Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, the event raised more than USD$610,000 which will benefit the children through the rebuilding of 10 additional kindergartens and one classroom destroyed by the 2006 and 2009 earthquakes in Bandung and Yogyakarta. This directly increases the number of schools built or re-built by Happy Hearts Fund in the region to 58.

Supermodel and philanthropist Petra Nemcova, the founder and chairwoman of Happy Hearts Fund, was present during the gala and conveyed happiness in receiving warm support for her cause, ““It was truly an honour to share such a special night in a country that I love. Education is the single greatest opportunity that we can give to a child. It is inspiring to see such generosity and commitment by so many business and community leaders who have seen first-hand the destruction caused by natural disasters and who are committed to their country’s children and their future.”

During the programme, special guest Sultan Hamengkubuwono X of Yogyakarta received an award for his own work in education, a feat that drew praise from Petra. The entertainment for the evening included numbers from renowned dancers Levente Bajári and Krisztina Pazár of the Hungarian Ballet Company, as well as a live auction led by Deborah Iskandar, which culminated with the sale of a special edition Chopard bracelet for USD$35,000. The sold-out event was attended by more than 400 distinguished guests including Lucyana Kaschull, Mia Egron, Edwin Soeryadjaya and Hanny Sutanto.
